In 2016, in a speech at an anti-feminist party conference, Shipley MP Philip Davies said “Feminist Zealots really do want women to have their cake and eat it”, and decried “politically-correct males who pander to this nonsense”.

Dismayed by his obstructive attitude to making progress on gender equality and a range of other important issues that affect many of his constituents (for example, filibustering bills on free hospital parking for carers, making homes fit for human habitation, and teaching first aid in schools), we – a group of Shipley residents from all walks of life – decided enough is enough!

We are Shipey Feminist Zealots (SFZ), and our aim is to put Shipley on the map as a proud and diverse constituency that stands up to sexism, hate and fear. Since August 2016, we have organised campaigning cake stalls, protests, parliamentary lobbies, panel events, parties, and even launched our own Zine, Cake for Everyone. Our cake stalls have fundraised over £1500 for Bradford Women’s Aid and CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably), a male suicide prevention charity.
